First meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Climate Change Board

The first meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Climate Change Board was held yesterday at the Palacio San Martín.

The meeting was opened by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador Daniel Raimondi, and coordinated by the Director General for Environmental Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Minister Marcia Levaggi. The meeting was also attended by authorities of the Office of the Chief of Cabinet of Ministers and of the Ministries of Environment and Sustainable Development; Transport; Agro-industry; Energy and Mining; Science, Technology and Productive Innovation; Tourism; Security, and Defence.

Ambassador Raimondi underscored that the Foreign Affairs Committee was created due to the "need to establish a space for coordination and work led by the Foreign Ministry in order to provide technical information on Argentina's position regarding different issues relating to climate change response."

In addition, the Undersecretary for Climate Change and Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Environment, Carlos Gentile, delivered a presentation on the work of the Climate Sustainability Working Group under the Argentine G-20 Presidency.

Participants also addressed the progress of the emissions mitigation measures implemented by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO); the meetings of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on climate change and Argentina's participation; the state of affairs of the negotiation on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the operation of the financial mechanism of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The meeting made it possible to coordinate and define working lines for the different government areas that make up the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Climate Change Board.
